ABOUT US

Longview was founded by Robert Alexander Long, a man of vision who knew the importance of having a solid foundation in order to make a goal become a reality. Some have said that Longview was simply a means to an end: housing for the workers that Long was going to need to make his company, Long-Bell, the largest forest product mill in the world. A tool to increase his already vast fortune. The founding citizens of Longview, Washington would disagree. Even a brief reading of Longview’s history reveals a much different story… a compelling story about a man who selflessly gave much of what he had to build a comprehensive, robust and world renowned planned city.

R. A. Long was a man who lived his life in an attitude of gratefulness with a keen attention to detail. He went out of his way to thank his Creator for what he had been given, and was dedicated to doing things the right way. He saw the citizens of this new city as co-laborers in a work larger than them all… a work that would be a heritage and a gift passed on to future generations of families that would spring up and call Longview home. As a result, R. A. Long and Longview’s founding citizens took great pride and joy in their labor of love, building a place where their families and future families could live, work,  and worship together.

www.plannedcity.com is dedicated to the vision of R. A. Long and Longview’s founding citizens. We take pride in their accomplishments and seek to promote the values they lived by. Their faith, sacrifice and hard work laid the foundation for a beautiful community and great place to raise a family.

Our Mission Statement

Provide a local web presence that gives the families of Longview, Kelso, and the Lower Columbia Region a place to call home in the great expanse of the Worldwide Web. This site will serve our area by providing in-depth Internet link information to local and national government, business, education, church, entertainment, and service organizations that support and build-up the family.

More precisely, it is our goal to publish a web site that has a "local feel" ... linking visitors to the places they want to go. The pages in this site contain items that are familiar to those of us who live in Longview, Kelso, Cowlitz County, and the Lower Columbia area. Some of those "items" include local area photographs, city names, business advertising,  and events.

For many, the World Wide Web is a large, cold, impersonal world of complexity without much direction, but brimming with enormous potential. It is our intent to give the families of the Lower Columbia area a place to start, and hopefully return to time and time again. We want to make the World Wide Web a more personal, organized and exciting place to find what a visitor is looking for, or perhaps just a more interesting place to look around.
